Recycle For Sight Collections Remain Strong in May

Make your eyeglass donation in one of our specially-marked boxes.

The Sanibel Captiva Lions Club continues to collect used prescription eyeglasses and sunglasses as part of its Recycle for Sight program. Collection remains strong at 363 items in May, which includes a boost from a donation of 90 pairs of contact lenses.

“The contact lenses will be used for clients of the Florida Lions Eye Clinic in Bonita Springs,” said Lion Rick Siders. “Since 2008, the clinic has provided eye care free of charge to more than 10,000 patients.”

The specially-marked Recycle for Sight boxes have collected more than 3,500 items since July 2017. The program accepts eyeglass cases and hearing aids, as well. Lions deliver the items to the Bonita Springs Club, where they are further categorized and sent on to a Lions Recycling Center to be cleaned and categorized by prescription and prepared for distribution in the United States and throughout the world.

“We greatly appreciate the efforts of our community in donating their used glasses, lenses, cases and hearing aids,” said Siders. “It allows our club to provide them to those in need.”

To donate used glasses, including reading glasses, place them in the specially marked Lions Recycle for Sight collection boxes located at the following businesses:
