Lions Form A “Pier” Group That Makes for Happy Campers

It’s easy to write a check when asked to make a contribution to a worthy cause, but how many of us are willing to work long hot days in the sun instead?

Well, a peer group, formed from members of the Sanibel Captiva Lions Club, did just that, and recently their contribution was dedicated before a large crowd of happy campers and their guests.

Gerry Miller, founder, and, with his wife, Sharon, prime mover of the Trailways Camp for special adults in Alva, asked Lion Dean Skaugstad to design and build a fishing pier and walkway so that camp members could enjoy the beautiful shores of the Caloosahatchee River on which the Riverside Retreat and included Trailways Camp are situated. The formidable result is shown below.

Dean’s Group included the following Lions from our club: Dick Travas, Cliff Nolan, Toby Clark, Wayne Boyd and Demo Scutakes.

Congratulations, Lions! We are all proud to be peers with you and your special “Pier Group”.
